Zanzibar people

While walking through Zanzibar, I found myself drawn to the children—their curiosity, confidence and the way they seemed completely at home in their surroundings. I photographed them as I encountered them, without staging or direction, waiting for those small moments when a glance, gesture or expression revealed something of their world. These portraits are my record of those brief encounters: simple, spontaneous moments of childhood and everyday life on the island.
